What is the Quiet Discipleship Award? The Award was adopted by the Board of Lay Ministry in 1989. The board wishes to recognize the important and distinctive ministries of the laity in our conference. The desire is recognize those persons, and their ministry, who are not frequently given recognition by leadership titles, but are the very spirit of a caring and loving ministry of The United Methodist Church.
The Guidelines: The recipient is an active lay member of The United Methodist Church; the recipient displays a strong Christian commitment in all aspects of their life not only the ministry for which they are recognized; recognition is for a lay ministry not generally recognized in the agency; the recipient is willing to have his/her ministry recognized; the recipient is recommended by his/her agency.
Since 1989, one hundred thirty-eight lay persons have received the Award. The Quiet Disciple Award has received recognition from the General Board of Discipleship and has received inquires from other Annual Conferences.
